I love photographing weddings in loft spaces. What can I say, I’m a sucker for exposed brick! Johnna and Bryce’s Loft on Lake wedding photos are some of my favorites!
I started the morning with Johnna and her ladies at the W Chicago – City Center hotel for hair and makeup. Bryce and his groomsmen got ready at the same hotel and Justin documented the guys.
After everyone was ready Johnna met Bryce around the corner on La Salle Street for their first look. That area is one of the most popular Chicago wedding photo locations and it was great place to kick off our portraits for the day. After getting some shots with The Board of Trade as the backdrop we headed north on La Salle to the bridge. We caught some beautiful light reflecting off from the glass skyscrapers.
From there we made a quick stop at Kinzie Bridge before getting to Loft on Lake. Since we still had time and the light was awesome we walked a few blocks down Lake Street to the Ashland Green Line stop. Justin and I had scouted that particular spot the weekend before and I’m so happy the timing and light worked out!
I have to take a moment to give Johnna and Bryce’s friend, Raj, a shoutout for an amazing job officiating their ceremony. It kind of felt like an intimate poetry jam. Afterward, Justin looked at me and said that we should require all couples get married by a friend like Raj!
After the ceremony, the room had to be flipped so we had to work quickly to get through our family groups. I was very thankful Johnna and Bryce had a perfectly organized and manageable list.
After the bridal party made their entrance to the reception, Johnna and Bryce were introduced straight to the center of the dance floor for their first dance. I loved the lights draped in the background and their block letters of their last name. There were some really nice toasts during dinner and it was very sweet to see both sets of parents address the guests together too.
Johnna and Bryce snuck in their parent dances during dinner and finished up with a heartfelt thank you to their guests. At that point, Johnna changed into her dancing shoes, literally and kicked off the party. This group was a dancing bunch and Justin and I had no shortage of hilarious moments to capture.
Thank you so much Johnna and Bryce for being such a joy to work with. We had a blast all day long and can’t think of a better way to cap off my 2016 wedding season!
